Earlier this month Speedy Ortiz guitarist Devin McKnight announced his departure from the popular Massachusetts grunge group in order to focus on his new solo project Maneka. McKnight's debut single, 'Tiger Cub' is a confident arrival, which combines the lo-fi feels of (Sandy) Alex G with the experienced American guitar rock of Dinosaur Jr. The 2 minute track features Jordyn Blakely of Butter the Children as a guest vocalist, adding a serene texture to McKnight's baritone mumblings. The whole thing culminates as an impressive wall of metallic guitar noise, before cutting off dead in a short but sweet morsel of things to come from Maneka. -HLMX
